Mpact Recycling’s collections of the orange Ronnie Bags will end on Monday 2 December 2013. The City of Joburg’s waste management entity Pikitup will assume responsibility for the paper collection services in the Waterval area.
Alan de Haas, Gauteng Regional Manager of Mpact Recycling says that the decision has been made as a result of the City of Johannesburg and Pikitup having launched the Trash to Treasure waste recycling programme which will be rolled out across the city over the coming months.
“We would like to thank the residents of the Waterval serviced areas who participated, for your commitment to recycling over the years. We urge residents to continue their recycling efforts by giving their full support to the new recycling programme offered by the City of Johannesburg,” says de Haas.
Residents will receive a white hessian, re-usable bag to replace the orange Ronnie Bag. These bags will be collected by Pikitup on the existing refuse collection schedule for Waterval.
In addition to the hessian bags for recycled paper, Pikitup will supply residents weekly with a clear plastic bag for the recycling of cans, plastic, glass, polystyrene and Tetrapak, the material used for takeaway foods.
