Reduce, reuse and recycle are not just buzz words in the media. Do you know where your waste ends up when you throw it into a litter bin as opposed to separating it for recycling?
Many items that end up in landfill sites can be recycled but people either don’t have the means to recycle or are unaware of how to recycle. This is why Mpact is stepping forward to educate and assist communities do it the right way.
With the assistance of Ekurhuleni Municipality, Mpact Plastic Containers together with Mpact Recycling donated ten Composters to Phelang LSEN (learners with special education needs) School in Springs, Gauteng, on the 14th of October 2020, to recycle food waste in the school’s on-site garden.
The Composters will be used to recycle food waste into compost, which is used to fertilise soil and aid in improved food growth. Instead of organic waste going into landfill sites, food waste will go into the Composter, which will speed up the process of breaking down organic waste such as vegetable peels, garden clippings and leaves to turn waste into organic compost.
“Thank you for taking out time for investing in our establishment and understanding our purpose and able to decide to sponsor our school as this partnership will certainly bare fruits of success. Lastly, this sponsorship will give us the chance to envision a positive future for learners with special educational needs” said Principal of LSEN School, Mr. Ledwaba.
“As the department, we are excited to partner with Mpact towards encouraging our children at an early age in using waste to compost. The programme will entrench the culture of Re-Use & Recycle in young minds, which will become sustainable practices in our communities and saving our environment for the next generations to enjoy,” noted Ald. Khosi Mabaso, MMC Environmental Resource & Waste Management.
Mpact Recycling also has the Ronnie Recycler schools and communities programme where paper banks and structures are placed at various schools to collect and contain paper waste such as cardboard, white paper and long-life milk & juice cartons, which is collected and recycled into new packaging giving rise to a new circular economy. Demonstrating again that our purpose at Mpact goes beyond making packaging. We make a difference.
